Event Hosting Grants Can Make a Big Difference for YOUR Event!
Did you know Brandon has a unique program that allows events to apply for FREE money so long as the event brings overnight stays to the City? Did you know that this program has NO minimum number of nights required to qualify? Did you know there’s NO restriction on what you use the funds for once you’ve received them? This are just some of the things that make our Accommodation Tax program different than others like it in the country.
Since it’s inception in 2012, over a MILLION dollars has been given out to events to offset some of their costs. These events resulted in nearly 60,000 overnight stays in the City. Event Tourists tend to spend more time and money in our community than other travelers, meaning those 60,000 room nights generated approximately $15 million dollars of spending in our city over those five years.
Events don’t just mean something for people to go to or participate in. They generate huge economic impact for our community. Everyone benefits from the local accommodation providers and venues to the average local community member. If our hotels, venues and restaurants are busy it means more people can work in these industries, make more money and keep those dollars circulating in our region.
Brandon First provides assistance to this program by taking all the hard work out of your application process. We can help you estimate room nights, ensure your form is complete and correct, and liaise with Economic Development on your behalf to make sure you qualify for the maximum amount your event can qualify for. And best of all, our services are free of charge. An initial meeting can take as little as a half an hour, so what’s stopping you? 2017 Was a Banner Year for Brandon First
Brandon First’s staff and board are very proud of our 2017 accomplishments. While bringing top-notch events to Brandon like the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field event, and announcing the 2019 Tim Horton’s Brier we also hired a new Executive Director, launched a number of new recruiting initiatives, and worked with local businesses to gain the support of 10 new stakeholders.
We assisted 18 groups to qualify for $173,519 in Event Hosting Grant funds to help them make their events spectacular through the Accommodation Tax Fund program mentioned above.
We traveled across the country to conferences and trade shows, sporting events and meetings, to tell the nation why Brandon Manitoba is the best destination to host an event. After all this excitement, all this activity, you must wonder how we’ll top it. Just wait, 2018 has a lot in store….
Upcoming Excitement for 2018
Brandon First is constantly working to bring new and exciting events to Brandon. Along with the usual annual city events we look forward to each year (The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, Jazz Fest, Brandon Folk Music and Art Festival and many, many more) we are excited that the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field event will return to the Sportsplex this August, as well as another great year of the Canadian National Arabian and Half Arabian Horse Championships at the Keystone Centre. We will be ramping up our preparation for the 2019 Tim Horton’s Brier, and announcing some very exciting events new to Brandon very soon.
