Thousands of players, fans and coaches gather in Brandon during the month of February.

The conference will be held at the Keystone Center and it is one of the premier agricultural events hosted in the province.

Thousands of people from Manitoba as well as well as North Central USA keep returning to Brandon for Ag Days because of its central location, warm hospitality and the Keystone Center venue.

This event is a must visit for anyone with a stake in the agricultural industry. Speakers will talk on a variety of subjects including marketing, economic development and business succession.

Our four indoor rinks make Brandon a clear choice when choosing a place to host a hockey tournament.

Under one roof at the Keystone Centre we have the Westman Place which seats 5,000 comfortably for big games and the Optimist and Kinsmen only a few hundred metres away.

Our fourth rink is the Sportsplex, a legacy from when Brandon was the host city for the Canada Summer Games in 1979 which offers excellent viewing in a more intimate atmosphere.

For family members that aren’t into hockey Brandon offers a wide variety of hotels, shopping and entertainment.

We’ve successfully held events like the World Junior Hockey Championship, the Memorial Cup and the long-running Tournament of Champions and look forward to welcoming thousands of hockey players, fans and parents to our city over the winter.

Of particular interest to us is the Economic Development pillar addressing 2017 Canada Summer Games bid which we are helping to facilitate currently as well as a Tourism Strategy, Airport Strategy and Highway 10 lobbying.

The event will have speakers including Vic Toews Minister of Public Safety, General Rick Hillier, Leader of the Opposition Hugh Mc Fayden and Premier of Manitoba Dr. Jon Gerrard.

The majority of the sessions will take place in the UCT Pavillion of the Keystone Center.

Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program is designed to recognize young farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession. Eligible nominees must be farm operators between the ages of 18 and 39.

Each year one farming couple is selected from each of the program’s seven Regional Recognition Events to represent their respective region at the National Recognition Event. At the National Event in Brandon, the seven honourees are recognized for their achievements and judged by a distinguished panel of judges using the following criteria:

• Progress made during their farming career
• Maximum utilization of soil, water and energy conservation practices
• Crop and livestock production history
• Financial and management practices
• Contributions to the well-being of the community, province and nation

Each year, two of the seven honourees are chosen by the judges as Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers.

The event will be based out of Brandon First member hotel Royal Oak Inn but the delegates will be heading to a number of places in and around our city including the Air Training Museum, the International Peace Gardens and Hockley’s Dairy Farm. Please click here for a schedule of events.

This is a type of event that Brandon excels at hosting. It is of national significance, strongly rooted in agriculture and requires broad support from the entire community.

Construction is expected to begin on the Dood Cristall Family YMCA in Brandon over the next two weeks.

The newly built facility is one of many developments happening in downtown Brandon.

This multi sport complex will further enhance Brandon’s ability to host sporting events.

Brandon Family YMCA representatives state on their website that they would like to have the project completed within 18 months
