For forty-five years the hotel at 3130 Victoria Avenue has provided guests with a combination of comfort and quality service that set the standard for other hotels in the city. Originally opened as the “Red Oak Inn”, it was renamed the “Royal Oak Inn” after a visit from Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Ann in the 1980s. The property has recently undergone another name change, becoming the Clarion Hotel and Suites, and with that name change comes some new features and services.
“The biggest change for us is the Choice Privileges reward program. It’s one of the major reasons that the Clarion fit us so well,” says Aaron Tycoles, General Manager. Choice Privileges is the second most popular hotel rewards points system after Marriott points and the program is incredibly versatile. Points accumulated through stays at any Choice Hotels property can be redeemed for the typical hotel stays and restaurant vouchers, but also for gift cards, memberships, magazine subscriptions, cruises and virtual shopping. You can also choose to donate them at their monetary equivalent to a charity of your choice!
“We have a few new standards that we have to follow,” Tycoles adds, “But our goal is to align the quality of the property with the level of service you were already receiving at the Royal Oak Inn.” The property continues to be one of Brandon’s premier accommodation providers and even though the name has changed you can still expect the same great service and experiences. “Genesis [Hospitality] still owns it, it’s still locally owned and operated. The only thing that’s changed is the outside of the building.”
The Clarion Hotel and Suites Brandon offers 156 guest rooms, of which 60 are well appointed suites, a heated indoor pool and water slide, a business centre, exercise room, and is Brandon’s only hotel to offer heated underground parking, a major drawing feature for those frigid Manitoba winters. Their 10,000 square feet of meeting space has recently undergone renovations and can be divided into several smaller spaces, or opened up to accommodate up to 400 people at once.
If your event requires more space, Houston’s Nightclub, which is owned by the same team and is located adjacent to the main hotel, is available to utilize for banquets and gatherings. “There’s been some misconceptions about Houston’s closing as a result of us becoming the Clarion,” Tycoles clarifies, “But that is just not the case. Houston’s is still Houston’s; we are very happily in our 25th year this year.”
Once you are settled into the comfort of your room you may want to sample the food and beverage selection at ECHO Wine Bar. They offer a wide variety of wine by both the glass and the bottle, as well as a full, yet simple, menu of steak, pasta, appetizers and desserts to treat your taste buds.
