Another Successful Legion Nationals for Brandon!

From August 10-12 the Sportsplex once again saw youth athletes from across the nation run, throw and jump their way into the history books. The slogan of the event is “Future Olympians Start Here”, and with a majority of Canadian track and field Olympians having participated in the Legion’s athletics program you can certainly see where that phrase comes from. The first year Brandon hosted, nine meet records and four national records were broken.

We can’t wait to see this year’s results and if any more new records were set on the Sportsplex’s incredible new track! National event organizers were very happy with the event and recognized the tireless hours put in by the volunteers on the Local Arrangements Committee, without which this event could not have happened.

Check out our album here for more photos from the 2018 championships. Good luck to all the competitors as they move forward with their athletic careers, and additional best wishes to next year’s host city, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Please join us in welcoming our newest stakeholder – The Souris Hotel

Arabian Horses Return to Brandon for Seventh Consecutive Year
Once again the Keystone Centre welcomed riders, trainers and horses from across the continent for a week of competition and showing at the 61st Canadian National Arabian and Half Arabian Horse Show from August 12-18th. Brandon First was lucky to provide our coffee service to the athletes and attendees three mornings of the event and had a wonderful experience greeting people, and the opportunity to chat with folks from all over North America was truly incredible.

The sportsmanship and athleticism displayed, as well as the sheer beauty of the animals make this one of the most interesting and prestigious events held in the Agricultural Centre of Execellence. Admission to watch the competition is free to the public, so if you missed out this year, don’t make the same mistake next year. Check it out!

If you didn’t catch the feature Brandon First wrote on the impact Arabian horses have had on history, and how the event came to be held in Brandon each year,  you can read it here. We look forward to welcoming this event back next year, through 2022, and beyond.
